As we approach the apex of summer we thought it would be a good time to look at different ways in which we can make the most of the sun and hopefully the good times to come. After a long year and a summer last year which can only be described as underwhelming we think that it is a good time to celebrate and will be throwing ideas out there at how you can do that.
Todays blog post will be talking about cocktails, they’re especially good during the summer months when the suns out as the two almost go hand in hand. There are a massive variety of different flavours and styles of cocktail which means that there is always something for everyone. Here we will be listing our top 5 cocktail recipes and how you can make them yourselves and maybe even inspire you to try making your own versions.
Margarita- This zesty cocktail will be sure to pack a punch. A combination of tequila, triple sec orange liqueur and lime juice all partner together to make this classic cocktail. It will be sure to impress, especially if served with salt and ice.
Ingredients- 50ml Tequila, 25ml Lime juice, 20-25ml Triple sec, Ice, Salt, Lime wedge.
Tip- Before you mix it you can salt the edge of your glass to really heighten the experience.
Mango Bellini- We often see orange, strawberry or even lime flavoured cocktails but mango definitely stands out as one which is pretty unique. Perfect for the summer months this drink is classy and delicious.
Ingredients- ½ of a ripe Mango, 100ml Champagne per 2 serving, 5 raspberries.
Tip- Blend the mango and raspberries in a blender with the champagne to create a puree and divide between two champagne flutes.
Piña colada- An iconic cocktail which is remembered for Rupert Holmes song as much as it is for being a drink. This drink is certainly an exotic and tasty drink which makes the best of coconuts and pineapples.
Ingredients- 50ml Malibu, 75ml Pineapple Juice, 50ml Coconut Cream, Ice.
Tip- Once shaken together and served with ice you could garnish with an additional wedge of pineapple to add that extra flair.
Sex on the beach- Not only is a Sex on the beach an absolute classic cocktail it’s also one of the most enjoyable. Easy on the eye and equally tasty on the tongue it has rightfully earnt its place alongside these other cocktails.
Ingredients- 45ml Vodka, 30ml Peach Schnapps, 60ml Orange juice, 60ml Cranberry juice, Ice, Orange wedge to garnish.
Tip- Add the Vodka, Peach Schnapps and Orange juice first and mix. Once mixed add the Cranberry juice in after to get a great colour separation that this drink is known for.
Sangria- A sharing drink at heart, Sangria is more of a drink for a group of people. If you are having friends or family over and its hot outside Sangria is a great accompaniment. Full of fruity flavours it can also be quite customisable for what fruits you want to put in there.
Ingredients- 750ml bottle of light red wine, 100ml Spanish Brandy, 300ml Sparkling water, 3 tablespoons of caster sugar, an array of fruits that you want to put in the drink.
Tip- Some of the fruits you can chop and put in there are- Apples, Pears, Strawberries, Cherries, Blueberries, Oranges. Secondly if you get a large bowl and cover the fruit in the sugar and let it macerate in the fridge it adds that additional sweetness (make sure the sugar has dissolved before you put it into the mixture though!).
Each of these cocktails are just to give you an idea of what you can make and enjoy this summer. The best thing to do is to take your time and enjoy the experience, experiment and find the right one for you. Summer is upon us and an odd cheeky cocktail is the best way to see it in, at least in our opinion.
