3 simple acts of self-care
Recently, one of the most discussed topic is self-care and self-kindness, but what does being kind to ourselves even mean?
We often see on our Instagram feeds pictures of bubble baths, with the caption #selfcare. But in reality being kind to yourself isn’t only taking a bath or getting a manicure. Taking care of yourself has a different meaning to each one of us and there many ways to practice it.
Self-care is often about self-love. There are simple ways you can start practising.
Take time for yourself
Sometimes, especially if you’re working or studying, one of the hardest things do is taking a break without feeling guilty. However, it’s really important to let your mind and body rest from the load of work you have and allow yourself to do something you enjoy. It could even be something as simple as reading a book, listening to music or baking something. Also, it’s okay to cancel plans, you’re not letting anyone down if you’re too tired to go out on a Friday night, you have many other weekends to do that!
Treat your body properly
One of the best ways to feel good and free your mind is exercising, although it can also be a source of stress. Therefore, don’t feel force to hit the gym 5 times per week or walk x amount of km each day, it’s extremely important to listen to your body. A really good way for practicing self-care is by embracing mindful movement, finding a way of exercising that you enjoy and it’s suitable with you schedule because at the end of the day you are the one doing it.
I know I said it many times before but no-one is perfect and I won’t stop saying it until everyone will get the message. Many times you are your own worst critic to the point that you forget how far you’ve come. It’s good being self critical and trying to improve yourself, but there’s nothing wrong in being proud of your achievements. Everyone makes mistakes, they are necessary for developing as a person and you should not beat yourself up when something goes wrong. Remember to speak to yourself with words of kindness and love and recognise all the good things you’ve done so far.
